Windows Phone Marketplace accepting submissions for China & five other countries

The Windows Phone Marketplace has announced that it is now accepting app submissions for 6 new markets, expanding their total available marketplaces to 41, with the addition of Argentina, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Peru and the Philippines.  While the Marketplace is not yet available in these countries, the acceptance of app submissions gives developers a head start to have their work certified by the time the new Marketplaces go live.

I find it especially important to note China’s inclusion in the Marketplace, which completes the representation of the “BRIC” countries.  As countries with quickly growing economic development, Brazil, Russia, India, and China (BRIC) provide huge opportunities for app developers to capitalize on new markets and consumers; China alone has a population of over 1.3 billion people.  China does present some restrictions for developers because of strict local laws and customs prohibiting religious or sexual references, as well as references to alcohol or gambling.  While these provisions, also applicable in Malaysia and Indonesia, may require developers to modify their apps, the potential for increased revenue and exposure is well worth the extra work.
